How large is the Overland Park Chamber of Commerce?
We have nearly 1,000 member firms, 12 staff professionals, a budget of $1.3 million and hundreds of active volunteers. Overland Park is the 2nd largest city in Kansas.

Who runs the Chamber?
The programs and policies of the Chamber of Commerce are the responsibility of its board of directors, which is comprised of 30 business men and women, representing all segments of the economy. Some serve three-year elected terms; some have one-year appointed terms.

If I’m busy and can’t attend an event, are my employees eligible to come?
All of them are welcome to attend, either in your place or with you. Many of our seminars and workshops are aimed at employees and not employers. Watch for announcements about programs that might be beneficial for your employees.

What’s the Chamber’s relationship with City Hall?
The Chamber is in contact with city council members and city staff almost daily. We have a contract with the city to provide economic development programs. We also provide advice and opinions on a range of business issues, including transportation, taxation, land use, redevelopment and public safety.

Does the Chamber endorse candidates?
No. Our policy is to study and take action on issues that affect business and/or the community, but to leave the election of candidates to the citizens. However, we provide information and forums for you and strongly encourage business people to support pro-business candidates.

How do I get on a committee or task force?
Annually, the Chamber asks members about their interests and expertise in business issues and community issues. We keep this talent bank active so members can be called as needed.

The Chamber has two permanent task forces – the Diplomat’s Club and the Government Affairs Task Force. Affiliated with the Chamber are four other entities: Past Chamber Chairmen, Leadership Overland Park, the Overland Park Chamber Foundation and the Overland Park Economic Development Council.
