The CityPlace development under construction at the southwest corner of U.S. 69 and College Boulevard in Overland Park was the scene of a massive fire on Monday afternoon.
In addition to destroying one four-story apartment building and damaging another on the property, embers spread to the surrounding neighborhood, damaging at least 22 homes. Some of those homes are now considered total losses.
CityPlace is a 90-acre, $450 million mixed-use development featuring space for offices, retail and more than 1,300 residential units. Block Real Estate Services are the developers for the property and had begun to welcome tenants in December 2016.
