Overland Park, Kan., December 4, 2024 – The Overland Park Host Lions Club was recognized with the OP Award by the Overland Park Chamber of Commerce at its Annual Meeting today. The Chamber established the OP Award more than 25 years ago to recognize ordinary people who do extraordinary things for the Chamber or the community.

The Overland Park Host Lions Club has been serving the community since it was chartered in 1956. As part of the world’s largest humanitarian organization, it is primarily focused on sight preservation and activities supporting visually impaired individuals. However, the local club was recognized for a project that soon will mark its 60^th anniversary – the Avenue of Flags that the Host Lions Club has maintained along Metcalf Avenue on major holidays for decades. Beginning with 74 flags in 1965, club members now place more than 350 flags from Downtown Overland Park to south of College Boulevard.

The dedicated team of Lions volunteers is assisted by local Boy Scouts and veterans. Funding to support the flags, in-ground sleeves and maintenance is provided by sponsorships, primarily from businesses along the corridor.

Accepting the award on behalf of the Overland Park Host Lions Club were Lynn Wolfe, chair of the Avenue of Flags, and Neal Nichols, past club president.

Also during the lunch event, Greg Musil was recognized with the 2024 Richard A. “Rick” Worrel Community Legacy Award. 2024 Chamber Chair Cindy Rock reviewed accomplishments of the year and 2025 Chairman Josh Beck, MarksNelson; previewed Chamber plans for the year ahead.
