Overland Park Chamber Honors Senator John Skubal with 2020 Richard A. Worrel Community Legacy Award

Overland Park, Kan., December 4, 2020 – The Overland Park Chamber today recognized Sen. John Skubal with the 2020 Richard A. Worrel Community Legacy Award.

Sen. Skubal’s lifelong passion has been to build and develop a community that thrives on a foundation of investment in education, infrastructure, business development and community spirit. Before becoming a senator in the Kansas Legislature, Skubal served on the Overland Park Planning Commission and the Overland Park City Council where he advocated for development and maintenance of infrastructure including renewal of Overland Park’s 1/8-cent sales tax for infrastructure as critical for business growth and opportunity. As a state senator, he has been a proponent for investing in education and critical community infrastructure while maintaining responsible fiscal policies. His legislative efforts were critical to the passage of the 10-year, $9.9 billion Eisenhower Legacy Transportation program, which was passed by 90% of the state’s legislators as a testament to his ability to work collaboratively across party lines.

The Overland Park Chamber established the award in 2019 to honor longtime community leader Rick Worrel and to recognize individuals who exemplify Worrel’s legacy of lifetime service to the community.

The award was presented to Sen. Skubal by Overland Park Chamber President and CEO Tracey Osborne Oltjen at the Chamber’s 2020 Annual Meeting, a virtual program presented from T-Mobile’s Overland Park HQ2. The event also featured a keynote address by Rebecca Ryan, a noted futurist and economist who helps clients prepare a better world for future generations. The Presenting Sponsor of the Annual Meeting was Security Bank of Kansas City.
