For the first time in 16 years, Overland Park voters will select a new mayor. This means EVERY registered voter in Overland Park should cast a ballot in the August primary.

Voters in Wards 1, 2, 4, and 5 also will vote for council members, with no incumbents running in Wards 2 and 5. This means that at least three new officials will be elected to our City Council.

In the last local election in 2019, only 8.3% of Johnson County voters turned out in the primary. That’s right, fewer than 10% of the voters determined who you could vote for on the November ballot, the one lots of people consider the important one. So important that in the November 2019 election only 17% of Johnson County voters took the time to cast a ballot. In Kansas, advance voting is so easy and convenient, there’s no reason to not cast a ballot. Otherwise, you’re letting other people choose the direction of your community for you.
