Overland Park Economic Development Council to recognize business contributions

Overland Park, Kan., January 20, 2023 – The Overland Park Chamber Economic Development Council (OPEDC) will recognize 10 businesses and current Johnson County Community College Board of Trustee Greg Musil for their contributions to economic growth in Overland Park at its annual Honors Lunch. The program is 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 2 in Johnson County Community College’s Regnier Center.

Business awards will recognize three fast-growing companies, five commercial development / redevelopment projects and two Business Hall of Honor companies. Current Johnson County Community College Board of Trustee Member Greg Musil will receive this year’s Ben Craig Vision Award.

NOVA awards, which recognize fast-growing companies, will be presented to Lifted Logic, StoneLock, and Tesseract Ventures.

• Lifted Logic creates cutting-edge online experiences that elevate brands, maximize ROI, and generate conversions. Founded in 2011 and headquartered in Overland Park, StoneLock has gained more than $11.5 million in funding for its futuristic technology.
• Tesseract Ventures focuses on next generation robotics, smart spaces, software and radically connected platforms, helping industries become smarter, better connected and more efficient. As one of Kansas City’s most innovative startups, Tesseract Ventures has partnered with school districts, the U.S. Air Force, and more to implement wearable technologies for improved safety, security, and innovation.

The Commercial Development Award recognizes significant investment and reinvestment in the Overland Park economy. This year, the OPEDC will honor MBB for its relocation to Downtown Overland Park and the many projects in which it has been involved including the renovated Johnson County Resource Library, Johnson County Rehabilitation Hospital, Promontory Phase II, and Avenue 82.

• Avenue 82 near Downtown Overland Park was a collaborative effort between BRR and EPC to bring 70,000 square feet of office building to life.
• MBB in 2019 announced an exciting move to Downtown Overland Park. After the purchase an old dance and gymnastics studio, MBB renovated the converted space.
• Back in February of 2022, the Johnson County Central Resource Library reopened a renovated library branch. Featuring new amenities like a drive-thru window and expanded kids’ area, the Johnson County Library and Titan Build converted the old space into a fresh and inviting look.
• After their first phase of apartments and retail, Promontory Phase II led by Arbor Development continued its mixed-use mega project with the construction of SERV, a pickleball entertainment district.
•  Starting with gaining approval from the planning commission in fall of 2020, the Johnson County Rehabilitation hospital was a collaborative development effort by WB Development Partners and Nobis Rehabilitation Partners to bring a new hospital specializing in comprehensive rehabilitation treatment to the area.

Business Hall of Honor inductees for 2023 are Cleveland University- Kansas City and the Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City.

• 2022 marked Cleveland University-Kansas City’s centennial year. With more than 100 years of operation, Cleveland has become one of the premier chiropractic and health sciences universities in the country. Since moving to its Overland Park campus in 2008, the university has expanded degree offerings and increased alumni base. In fact, 1 in every 10 chiropractors in North America is a Cleveland graduate
• The Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City is a network of businesses that protect and promote their interests and concerns of member companies. KCHBA’s recognition is symbolic of how the greater network of home builders in the region have come together to give diversified housing options.

JCCC Board of Trustees member Greg Musil will receive this year’s Ben Craig Vision Award. Since returning to Kansas in 1987, Musil has been an integral member of our community. His eight years of service on the Overland Park City Council featured projects that shaped the future of the city including maintaining or reducing property tax rates, development of the Sprint Campus, a major expansion of Black & Veatch, retaining Universal Underwriters (now Zurich) in Overland Park, dedicating millions of dollars to improve streets, curbs and sidewalks in the older parts of the city, attracting Nordstrom to Oak Park Mall, and kicking off the financing and construction of the Overland Park Convention Center and the Sheraton Hotel. After his tenure on the council, Musil served as the Chamber Chairman in 2008 and a chair for Johnson County Community College Board of Trustees from 2016 to 2018. As his “day-job” over the years, Greg has served as an attorney and he is now at Rouse Frets White Goss Gentile Rhodes, P.C. where his primary focus is on business disputes, commercial litigation, and real estate development, including planning, zoning, and permitting.
