President's Message

November 2024

From the Business Perspective Newsletter

Keep it small during the most wonderful time of the year

Halloween’s over! Pumpkins have been replaced by holly and glitter, which means it’s holiday movie time. What does nearly every feel-good holiday movie have in common? A small business owner! Probably because something is compelling about people following their dreams and being part of a community.

One of the things I love best about this time of year is looking back to cherished memories – meeting up with friends and family at some of my favorite restaurants, enjoying a decadent dessert or hot chocolate, admiring creative light displays, and finding the perfect gift at a boutique. These are special memories because these traditions were created with people who mean the most to me.

Traditions like these led to the creation of Small Business Season.

From November 1 to December 31, we’re celebrating the heart and soul of our community – our small businesses. These entrepreneurs and business owners pour their passion and creativity into their shops, restaurants, experiences and services, making our area unique and vibrant.

Small Business Season isn’t just about buying things. It’s about making a conscious choice to support the dreams and livelihoods of our friends, neighbors, and fellow community members. Every purchase you make locally, and at a small business has a ripple effect – creating jobs, boosting our economy, and fostering a sense of connection.

This holiday season, explore our many local gems! This Small Business Season we hope you’ll:

  • Discover unique gifts and one-of-a-kind treasures at our small businesses, local boutiques, artisan, and farmers’ markets.
  • Treat yourself (and your loved ones) by indulging in delicious meals at one of our hundreds of local restaurants, book a relaxing spa treatment at a local salon, check out our fantastic museums, and other local experiences from escape rooms to axe throwing to laser tag.
  • Share your favorite small businesses on social media, leave positive reviews, and tell everyone about the amazing experiences you’ve had and the holiday traditions you’re making.

Remember, every dollar you spend at a small business makes a difference. Let’s show appreciation and support for the hardworking entrepreneurs who help our community thrive! Join us in celebrating small.

P.S. If you’re a small business owner, the Chamber has resources to help you spread the word about your business this season. Contact Izzy at ihagen@opchamber.org to learn more.
